In 2015, Essentia was selected to project manage a £1.7m refurbishment and expansion of a Neonatal intensive care unit at a busy NHS Trust in London.
The project took place in a live intensive care environment, and the obvious need to minimize disruption to clinical areas required an efficient and strategic approach. This way of working helped to ensure that a continuous clinical environment was maintained throughout.
- Redesigning the infrastructure to cope with the expansion of services.
- Delivering additional capacity in a confined space.
- Managing multiple client relationships.
We managed a number of other challenges during the project such as; working with a contractor unfamiliar to the Trust and guiding them through Trust processes; and managing complex relocations during a phased works programme.
The completed project provided increased neonatal intensive care (NICU) and high dependency care (HDU) areas for premature and sick babies; six additional NICU cots (in two new rooms; the upgrade of four HDU and special care baby unit (SCBU) rooms and increased additional capacity for hospital services.
