Guy’s and St Thomas’ wins NHS sustainability award

Our host trust Guy’s and St Thomas’ has won the NHS Sustainability Day award in the Clinical category for the £47k annual savings made by reducing waste and carbon emissions.

The Dental Institute at Guy’s Hospital, is the largest dental school in Europe, training 20% of all dentists qualifying in England. The resources used by the school and its students are substantial.

The institute worked to identify areas where it could function in a more sustainable way. By switching from disposable to reusable materials and changing exam kits, it was able to both reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Realising these substantial savings has enabled the Dental Institute to focus on further enhancing world class clinical care, research and training.
