UK Health Consortium meets with Jeremy Hunt in China

The UK Healthcare Consortium have met Jeremy Hunt, UK Secretary of State for Health, to discuss their progress to date.

The Consortium – formed by Essentia, EY Healthcare and Mott MacDonald – were at the Shanghai Conference for UKTI.

Steve McGuire (CEO of Essentia), Richard Cantley (Mott MacDonald) and Richard Xie (EY Healthcare) attended a breakfast meeting with Mr Hunt on 5 December 2016. Steve reported on the progress of the Consortium, explaining their work in Nanjing to develop better healthcare for the city.

The Consortium is in China to progress plans between Nanjing’s Health and Government officials, to develop their clinical services. For Essentia that started more than a year ago, with an invitation from Healthcare UK and the UKTI, to develop and share expertise with China.

Next steps

The Consortium is now looking for an appropriate investor and NHS partner for a Paediatric Health infrastructure project in Nanjing.

Steve McGuire was recently appointed a special advisor to the Shanghai Medical Innovation and Development Foundation. He will help give strategic advice on the management skills required for quality, non-clinical management. Steve joins five other international advisers who have been selected to support this special group.
